Count down to capstone presentation: 29 days…
TESTAll you have is this moment this breathe
This past week I went to my student affairs advisor professional conference near Disneyland. It was just what I needed. I got the chance to room with some girl friends, catch up on work and being married. Both nights, I stayed up late talking about when do you make the life changing discussion to have kids and change jobs. I told Matthias, men have poker, women deep talks. Each time someone asked how I was doing, all I could do was take a deep breathe and say, “I am four weeks away from finishing my grad programâ€.
I came to the conference with my mind heavy, my heart racing and all I wanted to do was check things off my to-do list. On the second day of the conference, the conference planning committee started the day off with a stress releasing workshop. This amazing peaceful woman led us through mediation and would repeat, “All you have is this moment this breatheâ€. By the time the mediation was over, tears were running down my face. I realized that I cannot control next week or even a year from now. Why worrying about when to have kids or finishing everything I have to do. It will not help me feel less overwhelmed.
Since then, I have started to say her mantra, “All you have is this moment this breathe†each time my heart starts to race. I’ve also being keeping in my mind this amazing advice I read in last month’s Real Simple Magazine, “You can have all you want just not at the same timeâ€

I’ve been published!
Yahoo! I’m excited to share that I published my first grad school paper. For my Foundations in Education course, I had to research and write about a current issue in Higher Education. I chose to write about the rise in Veterans attending college and lack of funding from the GI Bill. After finishing the paper, I felt so good about it that I sent it to the online journal for CA Community College Student Service Administrators called “Ijournal”. They agreed and published it in their Winter Issue Vol. 18, February 2008. The article is titled: Higher Education’s Critical Role in the GI Bill

Oscars
For this year’s Oscars, the only movies I saw that won something were “June”, “Once” and “The Bourne Ultimatum “. All great films. My favorite part was the live performance of the song from the movie “Once” and the musicians winning the Oscar. It is such a powerful song. I recommend renting “Once”. Marta played it for Kristina and I. We loved it! Another great Irish film. The next movie I hope to watch is “Into the Wild”.
Thanks Academy for another great night at the Oscars.
TESTBalancing act
All of us, in some shape or form are balancing something. Sleep, meetings at work, love, homework, our next big adventure. As I walk this fun yet a bit overwhelming balancing beam to graduation, I think about the journey. Along the way I must stop for ice cream, drink green tea and play the game Sorry. Homework will get finished. Projects at work will come and go. But in the mist of it all, I must throw in a road trip to my sister’s in SLO. Ahh…the destination is near but it will be the journey that will stay with me.
TESTThank yous
These last few weeks have been a bit stressful with the semester starting, finishing two classes and starting my final class and capstone. I want to enjoy this time but at the same time, I would love to be done. But for right now, I want to share some thank yous:
Thank you Matthias for your support and patiences. Thank you for helping me with my web site, the house and listening to me when I start to stress out. You always remind me to make life simple yet better. I love being married to you.
Thank you to my students who brighten up my day when I am feeling overwhelmed about school. Thank you for all your hard work on Measure L, and how you make a true effort to balance work, school and being involved.
Thank you to my co-hort. Ladies, I love how we are there for each other. Thanks for calling in and staying in touch through email.
Thank you to Mom, Dad and Missy for your support, love and laughter. You brighten my day.

Sharing my birthday with the NFL
For the last couple years, when my birthday and Super Bowl would roll around, I would start telling stories about how my birthday USED to land on the Super Bowl. In college, there was my 20th birthday Super Bowl party hosted by my awesome friend Marta. Totally fun, lots of friends. The best part was for many it was their first Super Bowl. Ohh..and there was my 14th birthday that had t.v. trays, Mom, Dad and Missy, and I think it might have been the 49ers. Anyway, the point I am trying to make is I will now enjoy the break the NFL has created by moving the game to the first weekend in February. I will let my fellow February Aquarians enjoy chicken wings, brand new commercials and birthday cake. For me, I will enjoy the simplicity of the German tradition where I open presents at Midnight. Then wake up sharing my birthday with just myself and my amazing husband. Thanks NFL for the great memories.
On a fun note: Happy Birthday to me and my friends :>)
Famous people born on my birthday, Jan. 26-Wayne Gretzky (Yeah!) Paul Newman (Sexy), Jules Feiffer (Don’t know who she is but she must be awesome), Eddie Van Halen (Double Yeah!), Ellen DeGeneres (Turned 50. Hardly looks like.), Kirk Franklin (Don’t know who he is but must be pretty awesome) and Lucinda Williams (Love her music. She was amazing in concert)
